Reclaiming the High Street is a proposal to reduce the impact of traffic on the area around the Guildhall in Bath. The existing one-way system has created an unfriendly and potentially dangerous pedestrian environment while the setting of the buildings is damaged by the clutter of traffic signs and unsightly road markings.

This plan is neither for nor against the bus-gate and could be implemented as well without it. It does, however, attempt to minimise its impact on the environment. Similarly, the closure of Pulteney Bridge to traffic is an optional component but it would not only improve the appearance of the bridge but would also provide a much-improved environment to the advantage of all of its traders.
